How I Achieve the Black Background: Black is simply the absence of light. To create these portraits, I use a high-speed flash array precisely positioned to illuminate only the bird. By shooting at a narrow aperture, I ensure the ambient light is at least four stops below the flash—effectively rendering the background invisible, even in daylight. The result is a pure, 30-microsecond exposure that freezes life against the void.
